Sparkling Eye In Pinks & Reds

Publication Date: Fri 27 Jun 2008 - 07:35

Today I tried a sparkling eye look as follows:

Base - Cozmetic Lab Daydream (shimmer) - all over lid and up across two-thirds of browbone
Highlight - Elemental Beauty Champagne - top of browbone & inner corner of eye; wrapped around under lower lashes in classic v- shape. Also, MAC White on the inner corners of the eyes to emphasise the eye-opening look I was trying to achieve
Midtone - Elemental Beauty Cashmere - from inside to outside along socket line and up over browbone blending on top of and with base colour
Contour - Cozmetic Lab Barossa red - along upper lashes and marking browbone on outside edge and third of upper lid. Also two thirds across lower lashline
Eye pencil - Cozmetic Lab Midnight - marked upper lashes then blended into a line with 'flick' to create a profile for liner - softly marked lower lash line and blended until almost invisible
Liquid liner - Blinc Black - I applied along upper lash line only. I let the first coat dry and then re-applied to thicken the line
Mascara - Blinc Black - I curled my lashes after applying eyeliner, then applied one coat of mascara to the lower lashes and two coats to the upper lashes (continuous application)
Eyebrows - Body Shop Charcoal - lightly brushed colour through eyebrows to define - then Blinc primer to keep them in place

Foundation - Cozmetic Lab Natural foundation - applied all over face with velour puff then a second layer pressed on after concealer
Concealer - Elemental Beauty Bright Eyes - under eyes and to lighten hyperpigmentation
Bronzer - Elemental Beauty Radiance
Finishing powder - Elemental Beauty Dewy
Blush - Lavera #2 powder rouge
Lipliner - Cozmetic Lab Blossom
Lipstick - Lavera #20 - purple red

The eyeshadow base would have been better in Essential Beauty's Seashell because Cozmetic Lab's Daydream Matte is not really matte and is too pink for this look. I ended up layering the matte version with Daydream shimmer and then going over the inner half the eyelid again with Champagne to lighten the effect. What a pain! I also applied MAC's white shadow into the inner corner of the eye because the champagne colour wasn't eye-opening enough. The Barossa Red is a bit too startling for most people i.e. general application

The whole look starts to unify with eyeliner but I then decided to balance off the almost overwhelming red tones with liquid liner, which is never easy to apply but looks very sophisticated!

The blush and foundation looked natural and worked well with the rest of the makeup. I chose Lavera's darkest cool purple/red lipstick to diminish the pink/red tones of the eyes.

Overall I would give the finished look a surprising 9/10. It is the most difficult task being a makeup artist trying to first assess, then compensate for the unexpected results that some mineral colours produce on the skin. I still need to perfect the sparkling eye look and decide what colours in my kit will work for winter, summer, spring and autumn skin, eye and hair tones. Onwards and upwards as they say!
